Handcrafted Stingray Sculptures- Raw steel design as coastal art

Handcrafted Stingray Sculptures- Raw steel design as coastal art

I have yet to post any close-up photo’s of my stingray sculptures. These pieces are 3d with two pieces of hand forged sheet steel welded together from one end of the tail to the other. The tails and stingers are also hand- forged from sheet steel.

About the sleek polished finish:

The finish is simple in theory but tough in execution. I rust the steel first(as I do with all of my work) to age the steel then after the piece is welded together, I spend lots of time grinding/hiding the welds and then I use a high velocity steel cup brush to remove the rust and return the piece to the raw steel colors. Immediately upon completion, I protect the piece with a thick clear poly paint. Each stingray sculpture is signed and dated on the backside. No two coastal sculptures are alike……being handcrafted without use of computerized torches and hammers, exact duplication is impossible, in a good way!

7ft Handcrafted Mermaid Art/Sculpture Fills A Very Big Wall

At this beautiful coastal home that faces the Intracoastal Waterway and is only 1 nautical mile from Harbor Town of Hilton Head, Heidi and Pete Woods have used this large 7ft tall handcrafted mermaid sculpture to set off the perfect coastal decor theme for their beautiful beach house in Haig Point. In fact, this large wall makes this mermaid sculpture look much smaller than it is. However, it is no secret that vaulted ceilings can play tricks on your eyes. Ask any interior designer….they’ll tell you.

With all of the natural light in this room, a sunset view of this mermaid sculpture is even more stunning(photo requested:-)) Nevertheless, we have to settle for this morning photo which of course works just fine. Many thanks to the Wood family for opening up their home to an informal photo shoot. Job well done decorating your beach house with this handcrafted mermaid sculpture. She really sets the tone in this coastal room!

Grouping Coastal Sculptures- A Creative Way to Decorate an Entrance

This photograph is courtesy of loyal Iron Fish friends and customers Mr. & Mrs. Nickels of Daufuskie Island, SC. Mrs. Nickels has used her creativity with these red snapper iron fish coastal sculptures by “schooling” them together by the front entrance door of their beach house on the coast of South Carolina.
