Ocean Outpost Blogs About Daufuskie Island

Recently, John Flanagan from Ocean Outpost visited Daufuskie Island and wrote a nice blog about his visit.  Take a second to see what this first-timer to Daufuskie had to say about his day on our Island.

Iron Fish Bones - A Handcrafted Coastal Sculpture

Here is an excerpt from the blog:

We went to Daufuskie without much of an agenda, but we did want to do a few things while on the island,

  • Spend time on the beach
  • Do some surf fishing
  • Explore the island
  • Have dinner at Marshside Mama’s. Marshside Mama’s is a quirky restaurant, right on the marsh, as you would guess, with fire pits, outdoor seating in the sand, and live music on select nights. The food is great and the atmosphere is funky Daufuskie.
  • Visit The Iron Fish Gallery. Artist/sculptor Chase Allen runs the gallery and creates ocean and sea life inspired steel and iron sculptures of all kinds…birds, crabs, fish, mermaids. Chase personally greeted us and showed us around the studio and gallery…lots of great work on display! He ships directly from Daufuskie, be sure to visit his website and online store https://ironfishart.com/.

There is a self-guided trail that looks interesting, we didn’t take it…maybe we will on our next visit. Our eleven-year-old niece Kessa travelled with us and she loved the beach and surf fishing where she caught her first shark, a tiny one about 14 inches long. This is where it begins, take time to take a kid fishing. You never know when you might spark a life-long interest in the outdoors!
