Being a professional artist over the past years I have had many people ask many times, “how do you come up with these ideas?”. Not wanting to go in to my long and often confusing version of my belief in a higher power, it is so simple for me to explain that I was born in to it. Literally, art is in my blood.
My aunt, Lindsay Daniel, president and founder of Lindsay Daniel Architecture has made an incredible name for herself in the world or Architects. Her firm in Charlotte, NC(yes the city that used to be a town) has a portfolio that would impress the most harsh of critics. She has been an incredible influence on my work simply through my observation of her discipline. I would say that the best lesson I have learned from her is that you never stop developing as an artist.
My mother on the other hand has never made a living professionally but man can she visualize the impossible and boy does she have talent. My aunt and I agree that she has the highest level of creativity in the family. She has used her talents at different times in her life but you see it most when her friends and family hire her(money rarely changes hands) for her interior design capabilities. You would have to see it to believe it. She rarely uses references or magazines for inspiration which is why everything she touches is totally unique and organic. She has something you can’t teach in school!
Now go figure their mother, my grandmother, was a talented painter in Charlotte and had the exact same talents. Not to say they had identical concepts because they didn’t. I am just stating that in my opinion, they were and are visually brilliant.
Ok, back to the title of this post…”Creative Coastal Designs….It’s In The Blood!”. I am not by any means taking any claim to this artistic brilliance. I think that when the artistry switched chromosomes for the first time that some of the talent was lost. Nevertheless, I am just thankful, beyond belief, that at least some of it rubbed off on me!!! This is where I get my talents.
